Kodykoala's Toad Mech

Kodykoala's Toad Mech

Here is the latest addition to the Mario Universe Mech series. I figured since the Toads were the smallest of the group, they would beef up their Mechs with some heavy fire power. I also figured that since there was a bit more in this Mech, that maybe a co-pilot was need to help with the weapon systems and other controls.

For this I used a vinyl Toad figure for the base, a Halo Warthog for the cockpit, and some guns from my parts bin. I believe the guns on the hands are from a Star Wars Destroyer droid, and the ones on the head are from a Transformers figure.

Kodykoala's Voltron Yoshi Force

Kodykoala's Voltron Yoshi Force

From days of long ago, From unchartered regions of the universe, comes a legend. The legend of Voltron, Defender of the Universe! A mighty robot, loved by good, feared by evil.

Voltron has always been a favorite of mine. Since I was a kid, I loved how the lions turned into Voltron and it worked so well. I wanted to re-imagine the lions into something from the Mario Universe, so I turned them into Yoshis. I tried to stay true to the colors as much as possible, and the result is this!

I used a Cletus Football robot (Version 1), 5 vinyl Yoshis, and spare parts I had left over from other projects to complete this. Total completion time was about 30 hours, and I had to do a lot of custom paint mixing, but it was well worth it in the end. Please go to My Flickr Page to see this guy in all his glory!
Kodykoala's Zombie Wario

Kodykoala's Zombie Wario

Zombie Wario ready to terrorize your neighborhood after what look like a night of forks and marshmallows. I figured he loved to eat, so I would make it seem like he turned while he was in the midst of a kitchen adventure of some kind. I use a vinyl Wario, skeleton parts that I had in my parts bin, some marbles for the eyes, and some plastic Re-Ment silverware. The guts and brains were sculpted from Apoxie sculpt. I love the way his eyes bulge from the sockets just a little bit... ;)

Kodykoala's Princess Peach Relaxing

Kodykoala's Princess Peach Relaxing

A Princess needs time to unwind and relax, and what better way than to take a dip in a lake. Unfortunately, she has some unwanted on-lookers. Is this another reason they are called Shy-guys?

For this piece, I used a Princess Peach head, an anime figure body, Lego bushes, and a couple different Shy-Guys. I have actually had this on my cutting board for quite a while, but I finally got around to finishing it. If you would like to see more pictures, please go to My Flickr Page. I will be selling this at Albuquerque Comic Expo, and anything that does not sell at the con will be available on my website and on etsy.
Kodykoala's Custom Bowser's Battle Suit

Kodykoala's Custom Bowser's Battle Suit

I love going to Goodwill. I find all kinds of toys that I would not normally get to make customs out of. This is an example of that. Now, before anyone gets mad that I cut up an N64 Mario Kart Bowser figure, I need to tell you his story. I found this guy in a bag of mixed figures. I saw the shell and knew that it was a great find, but I didn't realize that it did not have arms, or looked like it had been chewed by a dog. When I got him home, I took pity on him and decided to build him a working body.

I used an Iron Monger as the base, and I added a bunch of things to give it a mech flare. My favorite part of this is the little Bowser Jr. companion that flies around his head. The shell on his head was from some Japanese Koopa shell, and the feet are from a different Iron Man figure. I was trying to incorporate as much Bowser as I could in this figure, so I took some little shells from the Furuta Choco Egg figures and made them into knee and elbow pads. The rest are just left-over parts I had.

Kodykoala's Custom Super Mario Gun

Kodykoala's Custom Super Mario Gun

I have really been into making custom Nerf guns lately, so I decided to try to make one for good ol' Mario. Here is what I imagine it would look like. The ammo of choice is a Bullet Bill, and of course there is a working flashlight for all those dark pipes he has to explore. I wanted to incorporate as much of the Mushroom Kingdom as I could with this gun, so I also added Piranha plants on the sides and a super star on the back. I had to take out the functionality of shooting darts, so I added a sound every time you pull the trigger. It is the sound of Mario getting bigger.

I used a Nerf Nite Finder, Mag lite mini flashlight, PVC pipe, and an old Super Mario Sound Drop key chain that I had lying around. This was a lot of fun, and I am thinking about doing a Pokemon style gun next, but I am not sure. If you would like to see more pictures, please go to My Flickr Page. I have also opened a new area in my store where I am selling Custom Painted Guns for cosplay and costumes. My Mario gun is available there if you are interested in purchasing it. I have decided to try to expand my toy horizons, but I am still going to be doing a lot of figures. I currently have three in the works that I know everyone will like.

I also want to remind everyone that there is only six more days for the raffle of the Hungry Hungry Koopas game. I have sold about half the tickets already, so get them while you can in My Store's Raffle Section. Time is running out to get your tickets and I really want everyone to have a chance to own this unique piece.
Kodykoala's Custom Hungry Hungry Koopas

Kodykoala's Custom Hungry Hungry Koopas

Here is Hungry Hungry Koopas. This one has been a long time in the making. I have been working on this on and off since January. Initially I was going to use Koopa Troopas, but I decided that using the Koopa Kids would give it an extra flare. Each "Hippo" took about 10 hours to complete, and the main base took about the same, so I would have to say that the whole build took about 50 hours. The brick pattern was carved into each of the bases using an exacto knife. I also wanted to try a different style intn terms of how I painted this. I wanted this to look good and be functional.

I clear coated this 4-5 times to make sure that the paint would not come off when being played with. I printed the label using a laser printer and then I put a clear coat over it, so that the label would stay intact.

This piece will be available at El Paso Comic Con starting September 14th. If it does not sell, it will be available on my website. If you would like to see more pictures, please go to My Flickr Page.
Kodykoala's Custom Koopa Airship Bookends

Kodykoala's Custom Koopa Airship Bookends

I have been wanting a custom set of bookends for a long time. I saw a Minimates pirate ship and thought it would be perfect for an airship. I have a bunch of Furuta Mario figures, so I picked the different Koopa kids for the ship. The front of the ship is a Bowser head that I cut and sculpted to fit the front. The propellers are LEGO pieces. The rest is mainly figure placement and repaint. I made the bookends blue to seem like it was flying in the sky. Unfortunately, this is not for sale, but if you would like to see more pictures, go to My Flickr Page.
Kodykoala's Custom Zombie Peach's Lair

Kodykoala's Custom Zombie Peach's Lair

This was originally designed for a commission, but the money never came through. I know I already did Zombie Peach, but this is a bit different, and it has her latest victim Mario's head. I wanted it to seem like she was at her zombie lair, so I put bones from other victims around her "dinner table."

I used a hard to find vinyl Princess Peach figure from China, so I couldn't remake this if I wanted to. The mushroom is actually from the same Peach figure, and the bones are from these skeletons I got from target this year at Halloween time.

Since I originally made this for a commission that fell through, I have put this up in My Store for the same price as the commission. If you want to see more pictures, please go to My Flickr Page.
Kodykoala's Custom Bowser Cosplay

Kodykoala's Custom Bowser Cosplay

I originally made this figure for a Halloween contest, but I didn't make the deadline, so I ended up adding a base and made it look like an attendant to San Diego Comic Con. I also gave him a bag full of stuff that he bought at the con.

For the Bowser body parts, I used a vinyl Bowser from ebay. For the figure, I used a playschool Luke Skywalker figure. He came with a cool helmet that could be taken off, so I put that on the inside of the mask to make sure it would fit right. The bag was printed, laminated, and then glued together. The toys are just random little toys that I had in my parts collection.
